South West care home wins national award for excellence PDF Print E-mail

A South West care home has won a national award for the innovative way in which it helps to promote the sector and recruit new staff.

The Old Vicarage at Leigh near Sherborne won the Excellence in Recruitment Management Award, one of 6 categories in the 2008 Allcora Excellence in Care Awards, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Manager Natalie Adams and deputy care manager SueTurner received the award at a celebration lunch at the Rennaisance Hotel in Manchester on 24 September, and were presented with a cheque for £2,000.

Natalie says: “It was a spectacular event and we are extremely proud to be recognized for our hard work and dedication in attracting staff through our Care Ambassadors”.

Care staff from the Old Vicarage have signed up to their local Care Ambassador project, in which they are empowered to run workshops and deliver presentations as part of an organised programme to promote careers in social care and raise the profile of the sector. The Care Ambassador Scheme, created and developed in the region by Skills for Care South West, is now being implemented by more than 50 partnerships across the country.

The RBS Allcora Excellence in Care Awards are designed to recognise best practice and achievement in the long term care industry, also highlighting how well the industry has tackled some of the important issues facing care providers in the UK today.

Companies from across the country are recognized for their contribution to outstanding care services and delivery.
