Care Focus Somerset is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and as an employer-led partnership, supports the Social Care sector (Adults, LD, Supporting People) with workforce planning and development. The work we undertake is funded via contracts held with Somerset County Council and Skills for Care and NHS Somerset as well as tendering for additional specific projects.
Our aim is to support providers to raise the quality of care in Somerset, through a professional workforce.
In Somerset we have 26 Care Ambassadors and to date they have worked with schools and colleges, JobCentre Plus, Connexions, Diploma Partnerships, and a range of other stakeholders and community groups including carers, early retirees, ethnic minority, and youth services to promote careers in care and facilitate taster sessions and work experience placements. They have also taken part in TV, radio and press features and countless careers events. In fact, you will probably find that Care Ambassadors can't stop promoting their work even when off-duty!
As a Care Ambassador you can give as much or as little time as you can spare. You could be attending one off recruitment events or regularly visiting a school. This works with you, the time you have available, the skills you have and the setting in which you feel comfortable. We will give you training to help with presentation skills, but it might be that you are only talking to people on a one to basis.
